Lekki Port proudly announced another remarkable milestone in its journey of growth and excellence! The colossal CMA CGM Rabelais made history as the largest vessel to berth at Lekki Port since the commencement of commercial operations in April 2023, marking a significant achievement for the port and the entire Lagos Pilotage District.
With an impressive Length Overall (LOA) of 300 meters and a remarkable capacity of 6570 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), the CMA CGM Rabelais was set to discharge and load an exchange of 200 TEUs while at Lekki Port. This vessel’s arrival not only set a new record for the port but also for the entire Lagos Pilotage District, being the largest in ship dimensions to berth in the district, second only to Total’s Egina FPSO, the largest Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel in the world.
Originating from Shanghai and traversing through Kribi and Cotonou, the CMA CGM Rabelais made its journey to Lekki Port, showcasing the port’s rapid growth and gaining international recognition. The safe maneuvering to berth was expertly executed by the Nigerian Ports Authority Pilots, led by Pilot Fagbo L Sayid.
This milestone emphasized Lekki Port’s commitment to becoming a global trade and logistics hub, capable of accommodating some of the world’s largest vessels. It was a testament to the port’s dedication to facilitating international trade and fostering economic growth on a global scale.
