Lekki Port CEO Outlines Playbook for Transforming Trade at Nigerian Chamber of Shipping Breakfast Meeting

Lagos, Nigeria – August 19, 2025

Lekki Port was a key participant at the Breakfast Meeting organised by the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping on August 19, at the Black Diamond Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event, themed “Unlocking Opportunities: The Lekki Deep-Sea Port Playbook for Transforming Trade and Shipping in Nigeria,” convened leading voices in the maritime, logistics, and business sectors.

Delivering the guest speaker’s address, Managing Director/CEO of Lekki Port, Mr. Wang Qiang, underscoring the port’s central role in shaping Nigeria’s maritime transformation, said, “Lekki Port is not merely a port. It is a playbook on how bold policy, modern infrastructure, and effective partnerships can transform trade, catalyse industry, and advance the blue economy agenda.”

Mr. Qiang highlighted that the port’s operations are already reducing delays, cutting logistics costs, and strengthening Nigeria’s regional competitiveness. He further projected that Lekki Port will contribute significantly to the national economy, with revenues to government agencies expected to exceed USD 200 billion in the 45-year concession period, while generating more than 170,000 direct and indirect jobs. With the capacity to handle some of the world’s largest vessels, Lekki Port positions Nigeria as both a regional and international trade hub, while advancing economic diversification through logistics and industrial linkages.

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H.E. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, in his keynote address, commended the positive impact of Lekki Port since the commencement of operations. He emphasized the port’s role in easing congestion across Lagos ports and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness as a logistics hub. The Minister also reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening maritime infrastructure and fostering a more competitive regulatory environment.

Stakeholders including NIMASA, NPA, NSC, NACCIMA, ANLCA, and CMA CGM Nigeria echoed the importance of collaboration in driving efficiency, innovation, and sustainability across the maritime value chain.

The Breakfast Meeting underscored a shared vision for building a stronger and more resilient maritime economy.
