Lekki Port Scores Another First With the Arrival of the 14,812 TEU CMA CGM Scandola

The arrival ceremony of the CMA CGM SCANDOLA, the largest LNG-powered container vessel to berth in Nigerian waters took place at Lekki Port on Monday, 29th January 2024.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, Chairman & Board Directors of Lekki Port, Chinese Consul General, the Portuguese Ambassador, the Managing Director of NEPZA, Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade & Investment and other stakeholders & well wishes of Lekki Port, Lekki Freeport Terminal, and CMA CGM.

The CMA CGM SCANDOLA has an overall length of 366 meters and a width of 51 meters, and it is the first LNG-powered container vessel to sail to West Africa, arriving first in Tema before sailing to Lekki Port. Lekki Port is the only port in Nigeria with the modern marine infrastructure and facilities to receive such large container vessels. It is one of thirteen 14,000TEU vessels that form the new CMA CGM weekly West Africa Express (WAX) service.
