Lagos, Nigeria. July 31, 2026. The management of Lekki Port, promoter of Lekki Deep Seaport, welcomed the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on a visit to the Port as part of her tour of key trade and industrial infrastructure in Lagos.
During the visit, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala toured the Port and received insights into its operations, infrastructure and growing role in facilitating trade between Nigeria and markets across West Africa, the broader African continent and the rest of the world.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala expressed her delight at the scale and impact of Lekki Port, noting that the facility had exceeded her expectations and represented an encouraging development for Nigeria’s trade and economic prospects.
She highlighted the potential of infrastructure such as Lekki Port to support the development of more decentralised and diversified supply chains, enabling businesses to take advantage of opportunities within Nigerian, regional, continental and global markets.
The visit further underscored the strategic role of Lekki Port in enhancing Nigeria’s maritime capabilities, improving connectivity to international markets and providing the infrastructure required to support efficient movement of goods across global supply chains.
